I am a 2015 graduate of VT from China.
The town reminded me of the university town of Ann Arbor, MI. Not as expansive, but good stores, nightlife and a huge football stadium. Quite far from cities like Richmond (3.5 hours) and DC (4 hours), which are perhaps the nearest big cities and big airports around.
1. The university is nice but you will have a very difficult time to find any friends that are not your race, or the country you are from. In my 4 years, I only made 1 American friend. Just 1. We lost contact after my 3rd year.
Fun fact - the Roanoke Star near VT is the world's largest freestanding star.
My professor did find me in his records, and he did apologize because he could not remember, but it does not help anything. I love the university because I spent 4 years of my life here, however now, if I had a choice to do it over again, I might have picked somewhere else.
2. The professors only seem concerned with making more money, instead of actually teaching you.
Located in the heart of the Shenandoah valley, good places to hike and camp around.
3. The professors do not seem to care about remembering their students. I recently visited campus on Oct 9, 2017. I used my own money to fly back here from China. I was hurt, and upset when I found my old professor (a professor I was very fond of) did not even remember me. He asked me several times who I was. I had to show him a picture of us together. Even after I showed him the picture, he still did not remember clearly who I was. He claimed "sorry, the classes were just too large". I was so hurt and upset by this. Which goes back to number 2, they only seem concerned with making money instead of teaching you. After a few years, you will be completely erased from their minds. I feel horrible that a man and a professor I thought cared about me does not even remember me, and can't even remember me after I showed him a picture of us together. I don't exactly know how to accurately express my feelings. I feel a little "betrayed".
One of the most beautiful campuses in the USA. Consistent Hokie stone theme throughout most of the campus. Tucked away in southwestern Virginia in large town. Surrounded by nature with rural areas and small towns.
Although I'm not a graduate of VT, it has amazing research programs.
Class of 1995. Some of he best years of my life. A lot of good eats, friendly people, and LOVE the autumn foliage. But when it rains it "Bleaksburg".
Amazing school in an amazing community! The education is top notch. The campus is gorgeous. The food is always highly ranked and well deserving of it's ranking. The campus and community life gives options for everyone.
