Had an excellent meal, truly 5 star, however a group of 8 women were celebrating birthdays and were completely obnoxious! The venue is very small and not really the setting for their rowdy, drunken display. Literally, every table in the restaurant was looking over at them with their high shrieks and cackling; the couple next to us even commented it was getting ridiculous (they were celebrating anniversary). So knocking a star off because I believe the restaurant should have said something to them. I think it's ok to say to them, that we appreciate your enjoying yourselves and having a good time, but please be respectful of our other guests, they too would like to enjoy their meal and moment.
I'm not sure what the hype is all about. I came here on a Wednesday around 7:30 pm and I was seated right away... It's not so busy probably because it's summer break. I ordered the watermelon wheat beer which was refreshing and the waiter brought a couple squares of bread. I ordered the duck breast which was served medium rare with grilled squash and zucchini and quartered potatoes. The duck was covered in some type of sauce that's a little too sweet for my taste. I was expecting the duck skin was seared and crispy with nice juicy MR meat underneath it, per their description and the Yelp reviews. The duck came out MR alright, but the skin is far from being seared. Duck has some really fatty skin so when not cooked properly, in the case of this dish, well, imagine eating MR meat wrapped in raw fatty skin. I love eating well-cooked skin because of its fat content but only when it's crispy! Another thing worth noting is the ambiance of this place - it's definitely not as much of a "fine dining" as other reviews have described. Sure, maybe this place is the only restaurant in town that's considered upscale and maybe it gets more serious with their 'dress code' when the university is open but every table but one (what seemed to be a table of gentlemen that got out of a meeting) wore t shirts and shorts. Also, the acoustic of the place is pretty awful... You don't even have to try to evesdrop to hear everyone's conversation. I noticed there was only two waiters working the front so the service was a bit slow. On the good note, they provide a free chocolate truffle when you pay the tab.
A pricey high-end place in the heart of Blacksburg, featuring mostly farm-to-table food and an interesting collection of drinks. Reservations recommended, especially if you have more than 1-2 people.
ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! My family and I stumbled upon this small restaurant after many others were packed, and it turned out to be the best mishap ever!!! The menu is quite concise, but every single item was absolutely delicious! Each bite melted in your mouth and everything was cooked to perfection. I'm from the DC area and I felt as if I were at a 5 star restaurant and not in Blacksburg. After seeing another table order a beautiful dessert we knew we had to follow their lead and yet another great decision was made. Every dessert was homemade, handcrafted and left you speechless with each bite. I honestly would go there every time from now on for any type "nice dinner". The prices were a bit on the higher side, but definitely worth every penny! (average meal ~$30)
This is a true gem in the New River Valley. Beautiful restaurant, excellent service and the food was amazing! Everything we had from the brunch menu was exquisite! My granddaughter (10) complimented the chef and told him it was the first time she cleared her plate in a restaurant!
