THE BIGGEST CROOKS!! WORST RENTAL COMPANY!! If you need something fixed? Forget it!! If you have an emergency & inform them your rent will be a little late cause you're in the hospital, prepare for an enormous late fee!! Will they work with you? NO!! Receptionists are nice but everybody else: can go where the sun don't shine!!
!)! I've worked in rental offices before, so I know that their shady practices are barely legal, but that's all they care about. Do yourself a favor and do not rent with Townside!
Stay away with this company. They charge a lot when you want to move out for no reasons. It is a horrible company.
Another instance where the master bed's toilet was broken. Once again, called Emergency Maintenence because it was running continuously. Were told we didn't want the lady on the phone to come out to our unit because it would cost extra. Why would she be the one coming out to see it and not a maintenence person?
Avoid this rental company at all costs!!
SUMMARY: Expect nothing but attitude when it comes to maintenence requests. The people behind the scenes are extremely unorganized and unprofessional. The two women who work at the front desk were nothing but friendly from the time we applied to live in Berryfield, to the time we turned our keys in. We got about half of our security deposit back.
The only thing Townside is good for is the location of some of their units in relation to campus. Also there is no recycling.
On top of that, move in was a total nightmare because none of our windows opened, the back sliding door didn't open, and the carpet smelled like pee. Management wanted nothing to do with any of that and was extremely rude and unprofessional when we requested those things to be fixed. Clearly they do not actually fix up or clean the apartments before move in and just charge college kids when they move out!
The maintenance lady was totally unresponsive and took weeks to hire people fix the most simple things. She was rude and had an attitude whenever we needed something done if she was ever in her office.
DO NOT RENT WITH TOWNSIDE! Overall, our experience was terrible. While the ladies at the front desk are polite, the property manager is extremely rude and NEVER comes out of her office to talk to anyone. We had major maintenance issues, as our washing machine broke 3 times, which caused our basement to flood. It took their outside maintenance contractors several days to respond, which left us with stagnant water for days on end. Second, Townside doesn't do rental verifications/checks or credit checks. I won't go into the depth of the situation, but we ended up with a shady roommate because they failed to conduct any checks on our roommate, who ended up stealing our rent money for 2 months. After we moved out, we received a total of $80 of our $1200 deposit. This is ridiculous - while our apartment wasn't spotless, we did clean most of the apartment possible before we left. They charged us $600 just to clean our apartment, when there was basically no damage (this doesnt even include the $250 they automatically charge you for cleaning the carpets
We moved in in August, our AC was broken, it took THREE calls over the span of 2 days to get a maitenence person to come out because we were moving in and wanted some cool air, he comes out and says that our AC unit is barely tied together but it's fixed for now. Spring comes along and our AC unit is broken AGAIN, breaking on a Friday afternoon. We called Emergency Maintenence and were told "honey, air conditioning is a luxury, you don't want me to come out there and look at it." I thought the entire point of having a property management company was FOR instances like this? Finally after TWO WEEKS of waiting, the HVAC people came out and installed a brand new air conditioning unit (which should've been done the first time it was broken in the Fall...)
Don't expect your security deposit back. Townside takes a minimum $300 from your security deposit for cleaning and carpet cleaning fees on move out. After going above and beyond to fix up the apartment when we left, we were still charged $200 for cleaning, $100 for carpet cleaning $100 for damages and $10 to print out pictures of the damages! On move out we cleaned, wet vacuumed all carpets, replaced stove drip pans, cleaned the oven, and even painted over scuff marks with paint we bought, however, Townside still took out nearly $400 from our security deposit.
